Shobhit Banwait is a Canadian-born percussionist of Indian descent. He was born and raised in Toronto, Canada and has been playing tabla and dholak professionally since the age of 18. In 2016, his musical style gained worldwide attention when pop star, Sia, personally recognized Shobhit for mixing tabla over her smash hit, “Cheap Thrills.” From this moment, Shobhit’s popularity exploded with live interviews on CBC, Hindustan Times, NDTV, Buzzfeed, and other various news outlets across the world. He was also featured in Cosmopolitan, Femina, and Harper’s Bazaar magazines. By the end of 2016, Shobhit received an Arts Acclaim Award from the City of Brampton and won an ANOKHI Award for the Most Promising Musical Fusionist.

Shobhit began travelling the world and performed alongside Bollywood’s biggest music stars including Yo Yo Honey Singh, Ali Zafar, Sidhu Moosewala, Gippy Grewal, Sharry Maan, Jassie Gill, Momina Mustehsan, Miss Pooja, Kamal Khan, and Amrita Puri. In 2017, former President of India, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, and the Kalam Centre, invited Shobhit to the University of Delhi in New Delhi, India to receive a Kalam Youth Icon of the Year award where he performed tabla for the entire student body. With his newfound success, Shobhit wanted to push tabla and other classical Indian instruments even further. By early 2018, he signed to Pug Life Records®, a hybrid management, record label, video production, and marketing company founded by entrepreneur, Justin Ashar. Global brands started to notice Shobhit, and he was endorsed by Brooke Bond Taj Mahal® tea, Manscaped®, and other various brands.

Shobhit’s first major collaboration was with Lost Stories, an Indian DJ duo based in Mumbai India, to release an official tabla remix of their song “Faking It.” In 2019, Pug Life Records® partnered up with Speed Records®, a leading Punjabi record label, to collaborate on an official Shobhit Banwait tabla remix for the Doorbeen’s #1 viral hit, “Lamberghini.” Shobhit’s music video was filmed in Toronto, Canada with a white Lamborgini and was released on the Speed Records® YouTube channel with a whopping 30+ million subscribers.
